1864. Large Motto. NGC graded MS-64 Red & Brown. CAC Approved. Old Holder. First year issue. Struck during a period of Wartime hoarding when only small tokens and privately issued shinplasters were prevalent in circulation, this much appreciated denomination served its purpose from 1864 until 1873, when the government decided to abandon the 2c denomination. The attractive shield and wreath device is by Mint engraver James B. Longacre, who is also responsible for the Flying Eagle and Indian cents (PCGS # 3577) Estimated Value $250 - 275
